With the Civil War now in its 7th year, the Biden administration has visaed more killing of the English-speaking minority than his predecessor – Donald Trump. While Donald Trump, failed to resolve the conflict, he no doubt was hard on the Biya administration in Cameroun. Apart from his Ambassador – Henry Balerin, unequivocal about the direct “targeting of Anglophones” as he put it, Donald Trump, suspended military co-operation between Washington and Yaounde. He also suspended French Cameroun from AGOA benefits. While these actions and Trump’s firm call for negotiations by both sides without pre-conditions put the oligarchs in Yaounde and their backers at Elysee Palace, on the edge, the Biden Administration has practically done nothing. None of his broad diplomats and State Department officials have bothered about the ongoing killings and burning of villages by the French Cameroun soldiers. The Biden Administration has rather rolled out the red carpet to Paul Biya, in DC, undo and threatening to undo any actions by his predecessor to force Yaounde and Paris into resolving the civil war that has killed more than 46,000 people. Biden’s ambassador in Yaounde have not only been romancing with the two French-Cameroun appointed governors in the Anglophone regions responsible for these numerous massacres, but have failed even to defend the basic human rights of the minority English-speaking people.
While his focus in Africa has been to levy sanctions on authorities in Uganda for gay rights bill that prescribe death penalty, he has been unable to stop a genocide that has seen villages, more than the size of Connecticut destroyed and burnt by French Cameroun soldiers. Innocent civilians arrested in their homes are executed daily on streets in the Anglophone regions, some with alerts by family members to the US authorities in Yaounde, with no action to save their relatives. The Biya regime is in panic state and any threat by any diplomat relating to massacres is likely to yield fruits. For example this alert on this tweet was wilfully neglected and the next day the victims were not only waterboarded, tortured before execution, but military trucks were run over their bodies
The Big Babanki Massacre of 15 June, 2023
Before the massacre of at least 24 innocent civilians by the French Cameroun soldiers in a village called Big Babanki, numerous alerts on social media especially tweets have tagged these supposed defenders of global human rights, in Yaounde in vain. The result so far is 24 people earlier arrested by the French Cameroun soldiers being discovered in bushes, rivers, and other hidden places with devastating gun shots, mostly on their skulls. So far silence and disparage is the norm by the Biden Administration. These killings are happening to a minority population treated worst than the Jews in Hitler’s Germany. They have been called cockroaches, dogs, asked to abandon their ancestral land or be massacred with the perpetuators enjoying laughs with wines with US Diplomatic authorities in Yaounde. This is happening to a territory that the UN knows was ripe for independence as the UN Trusteeship Council mandated. The history of the British Southern Cameroons is clear. While conflicts like this in Europe have been resolved with plebiscites/votes and not war, that in the British Southern Cameroons have been ignored as the rich mineral deposits of the territory have been mortgaged by the French Cameroun authorities to the Western alliance members.
