On the 20th of January, 2023, the world woke up to a release from the Canadian Global Affairs on Peace process in Cameroon. The communique by the ” Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs,” outlines her own Ambazonian leaders that they have reached an agreement with for “peace process aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis in the North-West and South-West regions of Cameroon.” She equally enumerated the parties known to her:

“The parties to this agreement are the Republic of Cameroon, the Ambazonia Governing Council and the Ambazonia Defence Force(ADF), the African People’s Liberation Movement and the Southern Cameroons Defence Force(SOCADEF), the Interim Government(under Nkondengui prison tenant, Ayuk Tabe), and the Ambazonia Coalition Team (ACT). Canada’s hypocritical involvement in which it picked its own groups to discuss peace was seen by many Southern Cameroonians(Ambazonians), as a Yaounde coverup. Many observers remisces the same divide and conquer tactics in the Sudanese Civil War when Omar El- Bashir, announced his agreement with Riek Machar and the other South Sudanese rebel groups without the main group of Dr. John Garang, or a deal with Buthelezi for the end-of-Apartheid without the ANC. The Canadian release further xrays Canada’s ignorance of the main actors in the Ambazonia War of Independence.

Dissecting Canada’s Own Peace Partners

The Ambazonia Governing Council is owned by Dr. Ayaba Cho, while the atrocities of its defense unit – ADF, such as kidnappings for ransom, public executions etc are enormous, with Facebook designating them as a terrorist group, the Canadians also signed another agreement with this defense wing – Ambazonia Defense Forces(ADF). This is tantamount to De Klerk signing separate agreements with the ANC and The Spear of the Nation (ANC’s military wing). Same goes for the African People’s Liberation Movement of Dr. Akwanga and its military wing – the Southern Cameroons Defence Force (SOCADEF). Worth noting is that these two defense groups form less than 10% of the military fighting in the Ambazonia War of Independence.

The bulk of the military and humanitarian burden of the war is under the Ambazonia Restoration Forces (ARF), under the Ambazonia Interim government headed by Dr. Sako Ikome, who like Dr. John Garang was sidelined by the Canadians in their pursuit of peace in ” the NorthWest and South West parts of Cameroun.” as the Canadians called their peace initiative – a slap o the faces of genuine Ambazonians who rejected the Canada charade from the onset.

Nine Months after Canada’s Prairie Goosechase

As warned by Dr. Sako Ikome that the Canadian Process was dead on arrival because, there were no guarantors like the Swiss Process that French Cameroun withdrew from, nine months after the goosechase, nothing has happened as the civil war rages on. Following the conclusion of the said process and following a release from the Canadian Foreign Ministry, French Cameroun, quickly dismissed the so-called Canadian Peace Process, disputing Canada’s claim that she gave her blessing. Finding themselves under the bus, Canada and her handpicked and gullible partners for peace in the “Northwest and Southwest ” – Ayaba Cho, AKwanga, Yerima, Akuro and others who had secretly prided themselves as bosses of the Ambazonia struggle, find themselves struggling to convince even their own shadows of the blessing from Yaounde. Till date, neither Canada nor her partners have been able to present any formal agreement or authorization to engage in the process for any peace from French Cameroun. Even a list of a single member of Yaoundé’s delegation has not been made public, leading many to conclude that Canada and her partners for peace were merely goose chasers.

While killing of unarmed civilians in the civil war in Ambazonia have been predominantly carried out by the French Cameroun soldiers, the ADF of Dr. Ayaba Cho, has been unique in its own executions. These extra-judicial killings by the ADF, according to renowned web Journalist Michel Bien -Tong, is aimed at helping Yaounde, to portray the legitimate aspirations of Ambazonians as a mere terrorist bunch. Mr. Bien Tong in his numerous outings has firmly stated that the ADF-AGC, are French Cameroun proxy forces. With Canada, having “laboriously” ironed out an agreement for peace, one would have thought that zero tolerance to Atrocity crimes like what its partner the ADF did on the 4th of October, 2023, in the locality of Guzang, to unarmed civilians under their custody was part of the failed Canadian agreement.

The executions were condemned by rights groups including the Interim Government of Ambazonia, under Dr. Sako Ikome, who call ed on the global community to send a fact-finding mission to Ambazonia. How to Genuinely End the Genocide?

Canada, her allies and backer of French Cameroun know best what to do. The general sentiments among British Southern Cameroonians is the fact that Canada’s leadership is bent on aiding France and La Francophonie, extend their sphere of influence by erasing the English-speaking people of the British Southern Cameroons. The perfect person to do this for France is the current Canadian Foreign Minister, Melanie Joly, who had earlier served Canada as Minister of Languages and La Francophonie. She is also from French-speaking Quebec. The killings have been going on now for the 7th year and Canada has failed to sympathize with the minority English-speaking people who from the onset like Quebec wanted nothing other than to be treated as equals. The Canadians and their allies treated Ukrainians differently and sanctioned Putin after the invasion of Ukraine. They did same in the 90s after Saddam took over Koweit. They helped South Sudan and North Sudan to reach a peace deal after more than 25 years of war, the UK gave Scotland a vote about the their union with the UK. The UK herself organized a vote about Brexit. French Cameroun is supported and defended by Paris. They can end the Atrocity Crimes now by forcing Paul Biya and French Cameroun to commit to negotiations without pre-conditions. Without such economic pressure and threats of isolation, French Cameroun and France will continue to sleep-walk to any idea about independent mediators as the facts and logic of history are not on their side. Also the resources of the territory of Ambazonia are too important for them than human life .The genocide has claimed more than 45,000 lives, more than 600 villages burnt by the French Cameroun soldiers, now called occupational forces. Close to two million are internally and externally displaced. What Ambazonians want is a well-backed and independent mediator, who will begin by recognizing the equality of the two Trust Territories. This will involve engaging with the main leadership group led by Dr. Sako Ikome. Any oher attempts are bound to fail like the second Canadian retreat that just concluded on the 8th of October, 2023, still in Canada, who is increasingly acting like Khartoum during the Sudan Civil War.
